Join Cub Scouts
The Cub Scout Motto is “Do Your Best”– something we take seriously for our scouts, and for our leaders and our families because tomorrows’ leaders deserve our very best!
Scouting is a unique and rewarding activity. Parents' regular involvement is vital to the program's and scouts' success and enjoyment. Parents don’t just ‘drop off’ scouts at our meetings, they are involved in the weekly activities and they aid in the leadership, planning, and execution of large and small events throughout the year.
If you would like to join our pack we encourage you to come out to a meeting at First Presbyterian Church of Lee’s Summit on Monday night at 7pm (we meet most Mondays of the school year, but check our Calendars to be sure). One of our leaders will be happy to talk to you and your son about what goes on in our regular meetings. If you’d like more information, you can always email us.
We ask the scout families to get involved as well! It takes a lot of behind the scenes work to provide a quality program for our Cub Scouts. From organizing events to assisting our other leaders, it really takes everyone to keep things running smoothly!

How Scouting Works
For new scout families, there are a lot of questions about how ‘scouting’ works. When most people think of scouts, they think of hikes and camping trips, but that’s just a small part of it.
The cub scout promise “Do Your Best” most accurately summarizes the essence of what we do - work with and mentor the boys so they will put forth their very best no matter what they are doing.
Some of the activities the scouts are involved in, from kindergarten (“Lion” Den) to fifth grade (“Webelos”):
Recycling/Conservation
Good eating and hygiene habits
Exercise and physical fitness
Responsibilities to family and community
Service, doing ‘good deeds’
Frequently Asked Questions
HOW OLD DOES MY SON HAVE TO BE TO JOIN SCOUTING?
Our youngest scouts are in Kindergarten (Lions Den)
WHEN CAN WE JOIN SCOUTING?
You can join scouting anytime (although during the summer we don’t meet regularly). We recommend that you stop by at one of our meetings and talk to our leader who can answer questions and give you an applicaiton while your son watches to see what goes on in our normal meetings.
HOW OFTEN DO CUB SCOUTS GO CAMPING?
Camping is only a small part of what we do every year! From games to learning things they’d never learn in a classroom or at home, scouting includes many events both at the church and away that makes the program incredibly rewarding. We typically camp out twice a year.
HOW MUCH DOES IT COST ?
Scouting is a 12 month program: we meet regularly from September until May, and then we have some special events (usually once a month) during the summer. Dues cover expenses within the pack, registration of your scout with Boy Scouts of America (which includes insurance for your son at Pack and Den events),”Boy’s Life Magazine,” and additional supplies used for den activities. As of 2024, the annual cost is $260 / scout + $15 (optional) Scout Life subscription.
In addition to check (made out to Pack 323), the pack also supports payment via Venmo.
WHAT SUPPLIES WILL MY SCOUT NEED?
Depending on the pack, your scout may need one or two uniforms.
Lions (kindergarten) only need a Class B Lions T-shirt.
SUPPLIES FOR TIGERS & BEYOND
All other ranks (Tigers (1st Grade) and beyond) should have a Class A uniform consisting of a Scout shirt, pants/shorts, a neckerchief w/ slide, belt, patches, and awards.
But don't worry, some of this is covered by your fees and will be earned by the scout. The only thing you need to actually purchase is a scout shirt with patches and optionally the belt.
Some additional details on these items are as follows:
Scout shirts can be purchased at either the online Scout Shop, or the local Heart of America Building. You will also need to purchase and add our Pack number, 323, to the shirt. You can sew this yourself or pay a fee to have it sewed on for you. The Pack recommends purchasing a shirt size large enough to grow into over the years as our program extends to 5th grade.
The Pack will provide neckerchiefs and slides that match your Scout's rank.
Awards come in the form of belt loops. These slide on to the official scout belt nicely as a way to show the scout's achievements as they advance. It's recommended to purchase the belt to have the scout display their pride in achieving these adventures.
In addition to the uniform, it's recommended that each scout carry the printed book for their current advancement rank. e.g. Lions to have a Lions book, Tigers a Tigers book, and so on.
