Aside from basic clothes and toiletries, there are a few other items we'd recommend to make your excursion better.
Sleeping Bag and/or sheets and a pillow - A cot is provided in your tent, and bringing a backpack is helpful. Some prefer to sleep on top of the sleeping bag with some light sheets on top.
Swim suit and Towel - There are two sections to Camp Naish, and you'll either have access to a Pool or the Water Park, either way, you'll want to remember your swim suit and a towel to dry off with.
Closed Toe Shoes - You will be walking a lot, so comfortable closed toe shoes are necessary.
Collapsible Wagon with heavy duty wheels – This is a very helpful purchase as you generally can’t drive up to your camp site at Camp Naish. This means you have to haul everything into your camp site. A wagon allows you to make less trips. Heavy duty or all terrain wheels allow the wagon to go over the terrain more easily. This is borderline necessary for camp. You can just make a bunch of trips back and forth from your vehicle.
Battery operated fan – Suggestion is a Koonie 10000mAh rechargeable fan. This fan is easily rechargeable via USB-C, moves sufficient air, and the battery lasts overnight. The clip helps you attach it many items to get it in place as well. It's used by many in the pack with great success to help keep cooler at night or just get a reprieve from the heat during the day.
Poncho - A poncho for you and your scout(s) is very helpful. Rain is a common theme during the summer and being prepared by having a poncho or rain jacket / rain gear is very helpful. Frogg Toggs is a great brand to have for a full rain suit.
Hydration Backpack – Scouts are encouraged to drink water during their days at Camp Naish. A water backpack like a CamelBak are very useful as you can hold things besides water in them for when the scouts travel around to their different stations. We suggest getting one that holds 2 liters, but a water bottle can also work if needed.
Camp Chair – Most people bring a camp chair. You may want to get a backpacking camp chair to take with you to the different stations which are away from your campsite during the day. They don’t always have seats for every single person, so having a lightweight backpacking camp chair is very helpful.
Mosquito Net – ScoutShop.org or the Scout Shop on Holmes sells mosquito nets for over your sleeping bag. Some kids prefer this experience as all of the bugs can be kept out of their personal sleeping space. The name of the product sold is MosquitOasis Bug Screen Tent. You can get these on Amazon.com as well. This brand specifically fits well within tents at Naish. Alternatives such as Sansbug take up more space and can be more difficult to tetris in your tent.
Portable Power Station – A portable power station is helpful to recharge devices that you have with you. This could be rechargeable fans, phones, lights etc... There are lot of options and for Camp Naish you can get away with a smaller power station as you are only at camp for a few nights at a time. If you know you will be going to Camp Bartle in the future, invest in a larger one. Some of them can be recharged using solar panels which you can bring. This is kind of a fun experiment while you are out at Camp Naish. Jackery, Bluetti, Ecoflow, Dewalt etc... are all known brands that make great products.
Astro Turf – 6’ x 8’ Section works best to cover the entire “pad” provided by Camp Naish. This is a luxury item but it helps with taking off shows and walking around inside the tent along with you not scraping bear feet on wooden pallet or concrete pad. You can pick up from Lowes where they cut to length.
We suggest carpooling from a local spot to the camp, like CVS parking lot. It's about a 45 minute drive from LS to Camp Naish. Consult with your Den Leader for arrangements.
It can be HOT and it does RAIN. See gear such as ponchos for rain, and portable fans, hydration backpack for heat. There will be potable water onsite to fill up your water.
Do not bring sleeveless shirts as these are restricted by camp policy and you will be asked to change.
Flush toilets do exist at camp, but they are not everywhere. There are also showers by the pool. The showers are segregated for youth and adults as well as genders.
This is an outdoor camp, so there will be bugs and critters. But there will also be raccoons who frequent these sites. Pay attention and DO NOT LEAVE FOOD OUT. You do not want to wake with a raccoon in your tent eating your food. Be sure to bring plastic totes to put all brought from home food in.
